Job Purpose

We are currently looking for a part-time System Administrator who will work on high-performance computing, local and cloud environments for scientific computing in bioinformatics, computational genetics, genomics, and crop informatics.

Key outputs/deliverables:

• Detailed, novel analyses performed
• Results interpreted from the genetic, molecular biological, and biochemical perspectives
• Manuscript(s) written and published in peer-reviewed, open access internationally recognized journal(s)
• This engagement will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities

• The successful candidate will ensure that the hardware and software environments are well-maintained and accessible to users
• He/she will also be responsible for installing/updating system software, managing users, and ensuring timely and accurate backups of necessary data archives
• He/she will install/maintain software packages for various bioinformatics/omics analyses and databases
• He/she will work with colleagues at ASTI-DOST on shared resources and facilitate strong ties/interactions with sysadmin colleagues at PGC-Diliman and UPLB (KOICA project)
• He/she will work with IKS on ensuring our cloud computing instances are maintained, and that security of the system(s) within the institute’s intranet follows all policies
• Qualifications
• Experience in system administration of both hardware and software for high-performance clusters (Kubernetes, SLURM, Docker, Singularity)
• Familiarity with databases, web applications, and software packages for computational biology and bioinformatics
• Use and administration of cloud computing

Skills Required

Mandatory

• Excellent analytical, language, programmatic, computational, and statistical skills
• Familiarity with Linux/Eunice’s, Shell scripting, R, programming languages, security of systems

Languages: English, computer languages (e.g. shell, C, Python, Ruby)
