Senior Research Officer Job description:

The Senior Research Officer reporting to the Assistant Scientist of EIU with the Enteric and Respiratory Infections under the Infectious Diseases Division will be mainly responsible for Planning, organizing field implementation plans,s and ensuring quality data collection with the objective of generating knowledge through effective analysis of research data within the guidelines of the research protocols; and organizational values and guidelines.

icddr,b is conducting a study “Transforming Brick Manufacturing to Promote Clean Air and Better Health” that aims to implement a suit of progressive interventions among traditional kiln owners in Bangladesh that will relax barriers to improve kiln performance, reduce air pollution, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Role & Responsibilities:
  • Senior Research Officer ensures proper project implementation in the field through planning fieldwork (allocation of locations and duties, requisitions for logistics/transport / petty cash, etc.) and executing field implementation plans like training field staff, Monitor and ensuring quality data collection, Resolve field related issues, etc. as per protocol;
  • Perform detailed data analysis; Develop possible manuscript ideas and Create/share the report with supervisor/PI/Study coordinator based on direction;
  • Senior Research Officer guide team members on completion of tasks, activities, reports, and documents; Mentor and train staff on-the-job in the field; Provide feedback to supervisor on team members’ performance in order to have a strong and motivated team;
  • Overall people management in the field and keep them motivated.
Required qualification and experience:
  • Masters from Social Science/Environmental science;
  • Minimum 5 years experience in public health research;
  • Experience in conducting large community-based trials in rural Bangladesh will be preferred;
  • Must be willing to travel extensively to different villages in the study area (Outside of Dhaka).
Contract Type and duration:
  • Short Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
  • Tk.68,735/- (consolidated) is per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
