Job Description

To lead the implementation of project activities, IUCN is looking for a National Project Coordinator with experience in the field of conservation and protected areas, natural resource management, and the environment. He or she will be placed under the supervision of the IUCN Cameroon office

Main Responsibilities

The project coordinator will be placed under the direct supervision of the IUCN Cameroon Program Manager and will be responsible for ensuring the execution of the project, with relevant activities carried out by the various stakeholders, and to ensure that the necessary reports are drawn up.
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the technical and administrative implementation, as well as the valuation of the achievements of the project and the alignment with other national and regional initiatives as required by the framework project management.

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for:

Ensuring the efficient and effective implementation of activities and the effective achievement of project objectives, in particular:

  • The establishment of structures and tools provided for in the project deliverables;
  • Project monitoring and evaluation;
  • Coordinating the monitoring of the various contracts with implementing partners (INDEFOR-AP, INCOME, UNDP) and other Partnerships;
  • Execution and monitoring of the Project communication plan;
  • Preparation and improvement of documents produced by members of the IUCN team and partners for the implementation of project activities;
  • The organization of events, meetings, technical workshops;
  • Execution of tasks by making personal expertise available.

Ensure compliance of the execution of activities with the contract and the project document:

  • Compliance with social and environmental safeguards measures in the implementation of the Project;
  • Planning and implementation of the project at a regular rate;
  • Compliance with procurement processes;
  • Periodic reporting;
  • Equity, in particular, respect for gender and vis-à-vis indigenous populations within the framework of the project;

Ensure the promotion of the experiences and results of the project at the national, regional, and global levels;

  • The identification, promotion, and dissemination of positive changes;
  • Dissemination of knowledge generated by the project through all of its targets and through the mainstream media of IUCN and the GEF Secretariat;
  • The visibility of the Project in the field of environmental projects at the global level;

Contribute to the sustainability of Project activities:

  • Identification and formulation of new initiatives;
  • The production of periodic Project reports to the supervision team.

Specific Tasks

Technical Coordination

  • Planning and monitoring of the implementation of the work program of the project team;
  • Establishment and operationalization of the project monitoring and evaluation system;
  • Establishment and operationalization of the Project’s communication and knowledge sharing and learning strategy in coordination with other country initiatives and IUCN tools;
  • Monitoring, documentation, and reporting of the progress of the project as a whole;
  • Identification and documentation of lessons learned and impacts of the project, both at the local, national, and regional level;
  • Planning and facilitation of the various coordination and planning meetings of the project both with the implementing partners, the other Partners, and beneficiaries of the project;
  • Planning and monitoring of the implementation of the planned measures with regard to the social and environmental safeguards of the project
  • Maintenance and animation of working relations between IUCN, the Ministry in charge of the Environment, as well as other Sectoral administrations concerned by the Project.
  • Help in the preparation of internal and external evaluations of the Project by drawing up the Terms of Reference and participating in field missions, supervision missions, evaluation missions;
  • Provide a management structure for the development and implementation of the project in accordance with the rules and procedures of the GEF / IUCN and in accordance with the instructions provided by the Steering Committee
  • Consolidate the annual work plans and budget from the national implementation units project implementation
  • Prepare documents for the regional technical component;

Administrative and financial management

  • Ensure the daily administrative and financial supervision, management, and monitoring, in strict compliance with the provisions of the project manual of procedures, GEF procedures, and those of IUCN;
  • Oversee the documentation and management of financial and administrative information, and ensure timely and quality financial reporting;
  • Ensure frequent updating of project data on the IUCN Project & Program Portal, according to the established schedule and in response to requests;
  • Establish and manage contractual relations with the implementing partners of the project;
  • Organize, manage and maintain the data and ensure the documentation of the project in an orderly, coherent, and easily exploitable manner, for the needs of monitoring-evaluation, audit, and transparency;
  • Facilitate project review, evaluation (internal and external), and audit missions.

Project Development

  • Facilitate the formulation of project proposals in order to develop the program portfolio in Equatorial Guinea;
  • Contribute to the organization of training, workshops, seminars, and meetings;


  • Hold a higher education diploma (bac + 5 at least), in one of the fields of the environment or sustainable forest management, with good knowledge of the issues of nature conservation and management. sustainable natural resources
  • Very good knowledge of Spanish and French languages. Fluency in English will be an asset.
  • Good command of the use of computer tools for data entry and analysis (MS Excel, Access, SPSS, etc.), communication (PowerPoint, etc.), drafting of reports and other supports (Ms. Word)

Desired experience

  • At least 07 years of experience in project management, development, and implementation of technical and financial monitoring-evaluation plans;
  • Knowledge of the GEF project cycle as well as the rules and procedures;
  • Having managed and been involved in a GEF project in the past will be an asset.
  • Be able to work in a team and in networks;
  • Good knowledge of the environmental and social standards of the World Bank or any other international organization and of its applications in terms of the environment, relocation of communities, indigenous populations, health and safety, assessment of impacts on the environment, risk assessment, occupational health and safety, due diligence, etc.
  • Demonstrable experience in the design and implementation of knowledge management strategies or plans and in project monitoring, in particular with the logical framework method;
  • Availability to travel regularly in the countries of intervention of the project, and sometimes in difficult conditions;
  • Demonstrable experience or expertise in the field of conflict management, environmental economics, sustainable development, land and use conflicts;
