Position: NDC-TIA Consultant Researcher (India)

Job Description:

The ICCT seeks a highly self-motivated, enthusiastic person to contribute to the India Component of the Nationally Determined Contributions Transport Initiative for Asia (NDC-TIA) project. The NDC-TIA project is funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).

This three-year project aims at promoting a comprehensive approach to decarbonizing transport through coherent policies and strategies, coordinated among ministries (e.g. including transport, energy, finance, and development), civil society, and the private sector. In the India component, the consultant researcher will analyze and publish short technical studies to inform the stakeholder dialogue and present the results of such work broadly at various forums. The consultant researcher will also be conducting analyses of electric vehicle supply and demand policies to support relevant stakeholders in developing appropriate policies. Finally, the consultant researcher will also have the responsibility to communicate the India transport decarbonization strategies in other venues across Asia.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze best practices to promote the deployment of cleaner, more fuel-efficient, and electric vehicles, critically assessing the role of regulations, incentives, charging infrastructure, and consumer outreach programs;
  • Quantify energy-saving, emission-reduction, and cost implications of electric vehicle technologies and associated charging infrastructure;
  • Collect data and maintain databases on vehicle technology data;
  • Help facilitate policy and technical exchanges for policymakers;
  • Develop relationships with other international experts, government officials, and local organizations; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in engineering, transportation, chemistry, biology, physics, economics, or related field;
  • Demonstrated interest in-vehicle technology, climate change, air quality, energy, environment, public health, or related topics; familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in the transportation sector preferred;
  • Excellent and demonstrated quantitative, analytical, and research skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and English communication skills, both written and verbal, plus reading and writing proficiency in a second language strongly preferred;
  • Superior proficiency with MS Office and other research software; Programming experience with Python or other similar software.
  • Great organization and collaboration skills, combined with flexibility and a positive attitude; and
  • Some domestic (within India) travel may be required.
